Rouxwil Farm is a working wheat and sheep farm, situated in the heart of the Overberg, between Hermanus and Franschoek, and close to the towns of Greyton and Caledon. You will find it nestled between vast, rolling hills of wheat fields, orchards and majestic mountains, covered in protea fynbos – providing an ever changing kaleidoscope of colours, a paradise for landscape photographers. Thys and O’nel Roux are the owners of Rouxwil and here they welcome all their vistitors with their warm hospitality. This young and energetic couple love to share what they have with guests.
The Guest House
On your arrival at Rouxwil you will be struck by how two worlds combine, as you make yourself at home in the luxurious suites at the heart of their friendly farm.
Rouxwil offers four luxurious individually decorated suites, with all the modern comforts you need, in private spacious surroundings, with magnificent, unspoiled views.
Hillside Suites: Two luxuriously designed studio apartments in complete seclusion. Stone courtyards embrace your full bathroom. From your own veranda you will have an unspoiled view across the valley.
Hillside Oak:
Rekindle memories of a forgotten grace and surround yourself with the Colonial grandeur of oak, leather and brass.
Hillside Mahogany:
Here contemporary design awaits you, with beautiful attention to detail, right up to a “double trouble” shower. Here honeymooners are specially pampered in an environment of peace and privacy.
Garden Suite:
The two bedroom apartment exudes luxury and comfort in the old fashioned way – a fusion of oak antiques and pure cotton linen with all the modern conveniences you’ll need. From your own private veranda you will look out onto a view of the valley. Look down across the farm dam, which is covered from July till October with “waterblommetjies” – a fragrant water flower which is delicacy in the Overberg.
Happy Room:
A private double room which opens onto its own garden patio, a warm and happy place, to feel instantly at home.
Each room has a well stocked bar, tea and coffee facilities, hairdrier, soft white cotton gowns, down slippers, and electric blankets in winter.
If you feel like company, come through to the main lounge where an open log fire invites you to sit back and simply relax.
Each morning you will be treated to a full South African breakfast in the comfort of the farmhouse kitchen. You can decide to sample the local fruit or indulge in a traditional cooked breakfast – or both!
At night guests enjoy a gourmet dinner in the main farmhouse. Thys and O’nel are both avid wine connoisseurs and will spoil you with sundowner drinks under ancient Oaks in the landscaped garden or even a tasting in their private wine cellar.

Farm Tours
Thys’s knowledge of the area makes the personalised farm tour an unforgettable experience. Thys goes to great lengths to personally show you what the Overberg is all about.
Every season is completely different and with an expert guide like Thys, it will come to life for you.
During the tour, enjoy convivial sundowners in nature, providing an ever changing kaleidoscope of colours, a paradise for landscape photographers. Abundant bird life, and watch the national bird, the Blue Crane in its natural habitat.
Autumn [April to May] is the wheat planting season and a very busy time for the farmer. You will be able to experience first hand what it takes to put bread on the table!
During the winter months [June to August] the Overberg is a patchwork of different shades of green and although some call it the secret season, it should not be, as this is one of the most beautiful times of the year on the farm. The homestead is surrounded with some of the finest pastoral scenery and sheep and their lambs graze right up to the garden fence. Thys will demonstrate with his sheepdog how sheep is handled with the greatest ease.
Our spring begins in September, when the Caledon area is in full bloom.
At the heart of the Cape Floral Kingdom, the countryside is rich in native flowers like Fynbos and Proteas, not to mention the endless orchards with their pink and white blossoms. As far as the eye can see, the wheat is now a sea of green waves in the breeze, broken here and there by bright yellow patches of flowering Canola.
The wheat starts to ripen in early summer and if you pay a visit during Harvest time in October and November, the hills will be patterned in a quilted tapestry of cut wheat.
The only problem you will face is deciding when to come to Rouxwil. You may find the only solution is to return year after year.
Cuisine
Stylish cuisine is served in the Manor House, either in the tastefully decorated lounge, or the intimate old farm kitchen, or on the big spacious verandah with a huge fireplace.
This couple pride themselves on providing their guests with an authentic taste of South African fare and a real culinary experience. O’nel loves explaining South African eating habits and traditions, like “waterblommetjies” and beetroot, or “snoek and patats”, bread and homemade jams and cheeses, or venison and quinces. Or experience an unforgettable “braai”, the real South African way!
Thys and O’nel’s wine knowledge will complement every meal perfectly. You might even get invited for an after dinner port in their private underground cellar.
